Boy's Apron

This is made with one tea towel and about 3 yds of bias tape.
Should fit 5 - 6yr old.

Cost of this child's Apron is approx. $3.00
about 2 yards ribbon - you use either gross grain or satin. Wider ribbon.
1 tea towel
1 potholder with loop at the top.

Cut tea towel in half, gather, Cut 1 yard of ribbon, mark the middle, mark middle of towel, pin and stitch together- I zigzaged to make it sturdy. Stitch it to lower part of ribbon so you can fold ribbon over raw edges, zigzag that. next find center of pot holder, zig zag to towel- I put ribbon edge on top, I then top stiched but you wouldn't have to. The other yard of ribbon loops through the top to tie around neck.

I bought small wire Christmas tree with snow flakes all over it. I displayed it but then the little wire tree is too cute to put away. I decided to use it to store my earrings. I am just learning how to use my new camera so pics aren't perfect. This little tree would cost very little to make and would be easy.

Nut Tree Marshmellow Sauce-

Is this good for you- hm probably not but it is sooo good. When I was in High School I worked at the Nut Tree Resturant in Vacaville, Ca. I worked there 3 yrs. I worked in the Kitchen - deserts, sandwiches, salads, and prep. There stuff was great.

Marshmallow Sauce

1C sugar
1/2 C hot water
2/3 C light corn syrup
2 egg whites
1/4t vanilla
dash of alt
1/4C mayonnaise
1 T grated orange rind

Combine sugar, cornsyrup, and hot water. Heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Then boil without stirring to firm ball stage (244-248) humid weather 248. Beat egg whites tiff. Slowly add hot syrup, beating at high speed until thick and fluffy. add salt and vanilla. Gently fold in mayo and orange rind. Makes about 3C. If thicker than desired, fold in 1 or 2 more T of mayo. or 1 -2t water.

This was served with fresh pineapple. I can't remember if we served it with the fruit salad or not. I almost remember how to make that. I know at the bottom of the plate there was a wedge of watermelon, slice of coconut on top of that. Strawberries on one side, bunch of green grapes on the other. A banana sliced in 1/2 long ways on either side, more fruit on top then an orchid, then the waitress took the plate to deserts they put toasted nut bread slices at the top and in the middle a couple scoops of ice cream. It was very good.

Sometimes it is hard to think of Birthday gifts to give someone- our son has a friend that is turning 20. He was saying he always got everything he wanted except the GI Joe with Kung Fu grip, well this yr we are giving him Kung Fu GI joe complete with his Claw Weapon a small replica of the real thing, made with wire and beads. You can see his outfit well as it is black- I will put picture I copied to make it.

I was looking at the sweater I shrank for a purse- there must be something I can do with the cuffs. I came up with bracelets. Rolled the cuffs stitched them and sewed on beads.

Sweater purse

I am making a purse out of a wool sweater. You cut the sweater body beneath the sleeves. Wash in very hot water. Strips are cut out of the sleeves- I sewed them in a roll. Then dry felted the hearts on with Wool fibers. I sewed bottom up, now I need to turn inside out and sew corners which I will post. Then sew handles on. I will then line the purse. I believe they hold their shape better lined.

Over the weekend I went to a fiber fest with friends. I had been looking at felting wool- I've done the water method. Now I wanted to learn the dry method- that you do with needles. They had tons of fiber art at the festival. Wool by the ton just about in every color imaginable. I haven't spun for a long time. I have a drop spindal, but not a wheel- they are very expensive. I pointed out one to dh and said here is my Christmas present--- no takers--- lol. I try to talk him into a cute angora bunny too-- he just told me add it to his list--no smile, guess I lost that one. These needles are really sharp ---- good weapons, you wouldn't want to sass your ma when she had one of these in her hand. They had hats they'd made this way- really neat ones--- I didn't bring my camera. Here are my first things I made- 2 rabbits were made by felting inside cookie cutters, then I cut ears, legs in half to make the look like real rabbits. The flower was free formed. There is the needle I used by the flower. first picture is piece of fiber. I haven't quite learned how to edit my photos with gimp yet to make the clearer. I have to talk to my teacher- ds .

The Red Room is my youngest son old room, at first when he painted it - I thought yikes, but it has grown on me. Now that he has moved out it is now my craft room, I sew and rubberstamp-mostly. I do some fiberart. I have quite a collection of stuff, the room is small so it is packed. Oh check the ugliest doll out on top the shelf.

Easy Best Ever Cookies

The picture of these cookies isn't so great. Everybody loves these--- that is if you like coconut.

1 bag of unsweetened coconut (health food store) sweetened will work.
1 can of sweetened condensed milk

mix- put in freezer 2-4
Spray cookie sheet very well. bake cookies at 350 for 12min. til golden tipped.

-Opt- drizzle chocolate over them and sprinkle on crushed almonds.

I often wish we could turn the clock back to a time when things were simpler. When Christmas was what it was meant to be. No rushing to all the stores loaded with stuff, just to clutter our lives and homes. What Christmas gift mean the most? I believe that they are the ones where you took time to make things for other and people made things for you. My children's handwritten notes and ornaments are saved and treasured. The Christmas's that my children and I spent time in the kitchen baking and decorating cookies for others and for our Christmas day celebration. The leisurely walks I took them on to look at Christmas decorations in the foreign store down town Evanston. The Christmas parties with International students Association. The handmade Christmas Ornament exchange. We didn't have a lot of money to spend but those where the best Christmas's ever.

This is stage 1 of the small knitted purse I am making. I will make a lining for it, also sew a button on the front. It is a gift I am making. Mohair yarn I found at the thrift shop.

This is a Dish/Bath Mitt I knitted with my knitting loom- Smallest the blue one, free pattern off an on line site. Not really fancy but I like something to do with my hands when I am watching a video or talking to dh in the evening.

I made this purse by taking apart another purse I bought from Good Will - I should have taken pic of the orginal purse- I have modified it some. This is gift for my mil for her bday- Sunday. On the bottom instead of making flat bottom way I usually do I folded the corner up and sewed a button on.

Lighted Christmas package

These Christmas packages are wonderful gifts. They are made with hollow glass blocks- building supply store. Take block put it in bucket of water- use drill with bit made to drill glass- insert only bit part of drill on block in water (water lubricates- also, glasses bits won't fly) drill hole big enough to stuff the strand of Christmas lights inside. Let dry, put in Christmas lights- Use wide ribbon- wrap and make it look like a package. You can change the ribbon to keep it out yr around. Makes wonderful night light. My mother-in-law made this one. The doll was given to me by my mil too. She didn't make it- it is a purchase from Danbury I believe. Linda 1/21/05

1. fringe money purse is 2 X2" with draw strings. I added fringes at the bottom .
This pattern I made up.
2.This purse is crotcheted. It took about 15 to 20 min. to make- I found the pattern on the net.

This is my daughter Christmas present (she knows about it). I am a beginning knitter. This took me 3 evenings. Boy do I know why they charge $25 and up for these scarves. I mended few dropped stitches needless to say. I like knitting/crotchet- I usually do small projects.

I really like rubberstamping. Seems homeschool keeps me so busy that only during the holidays and hs vacations do I have time to stamp anymore. I had so many to make I just kept them simple.

Making felt/paper envy for gift card/ art trading card

1 piece felt 6” X 2 ½ “ (outside piece)
2” X 2 ½ “ (inside piece)
2 – ½” circles of felt
2 brads
10” piece of crotchet thread
5” gross grain ribbon (back loop)

Pink edges of felt except the top end piece and top of inside piece .
On inside piece put brad in place to hold circle place ¾” from bottom of piece.
Outside circle goes ¾” from top (straight edge) – tie string around this circle.
Sew looped gross grain ribbon 3 ½” up from bottom 6” piece. (this will be back Of envelope) Match bottom pieces together and stitch.

In the past I have made the Moravian Cookies each Christmas. Youngest son loves them and declares it would not be Christmas without them. This year I am adding Love Feast Buns to our traditions. Church is later in morning this time, since Christmas lands on Sunday. I love the traditional Christmas Eve Services, all the Christmas Music. My younger two children ds 15 and dd 21 love to decorate. Our house is small, so I need to come up with new decorating ideas so the place doesn't look cluttered.

MORAVIAN LOVE FEAST BUNS

3/4 c. shortening1 c. sugar2 eggs2 tsp. salt1 tsp. mace1 c. warm mashed potatoes1 c. warm potato water2 pkgs. active dry yeast, dissolved in 1/2 c. water (warm)6 c. (approx.) all purpose flour
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, salt and mace. Add potatoes, potato water, yeast and gradually enough flour to make a stiff dough. Knead well, adding flour as needed but do not exceed 8 cups of flour in all. Place in large greased bowl. Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk. Shape into buns and let rise again until double. Bake in a 400 degree oven until browned, 15 to 20 minutes.

MORAVIAN CHRISTMAS COOKIES

1 c. shortening1 c. brown sugar3 eggs1 c. molasses1 c. honey2 tsp. soda1 tsp. salt2 tsp. ginger2 tbsp. cinnamon8 c. flour
Cream shortening and sugar. Add honey, molasses and eggs. Add dry ingredients. Chill. Roll out 1/4 inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees.

Polar Bear Kisses (Candy)

White Chocolate bark
Peppermint candy crushed

I melt white chocolate in micro-wave (carefully as not to burn it) Pour into buttered pan, top with crushed peppermint candy.

I only do these on Christmas as they are so full of sugar.
